Sovereign Funds Push Companies to Consider Climate Risks

A group of six sovereign wealth funds, organized under an initiative established at the recent One Planet Summit in Paris, has announced that they will only invest in companies that consider risks related to climate change in their long-term strategies and account for the need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to fulfill the UN’s Paris climate deal.

UN Agency Calls for End to Export of “Dirty Fuels” to Africa

The UN Environment agency has pointed to a report prepared by the Dutch government on the transportation of “dirty fuels” to Western Africa as proof of “an environmental and public health scandal,” arguing that the energy industry must not sell fuels that would be banned in Europe “even if they meet national standards” in African countries.

WEF Initiative Calls for Financial Pressure Against Deforestation

The Tropical Forest Alliance, a partnership hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF), has published a report calling on financial institutions around the world to place pressure on the businesses in which they invest to prevent deforestation in line with the global environmental agenda and the UN’s Paris climate deal.
