UN Agency: Ad Companies Must Fight Gender Bias

At a June meeting in Cannes, France, Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka called on global leaders of the advertising industry to commit to a "more progressive portrayal of women" in their work and launched a Tracking Study on Gender Equality Attitudes to monitor and report on attitudes toward gender in the industry.

Companies Support US Proposal for "Carbon Tax"

The New York Times reports that, showing global activist and UN pressure on companies to embrace policies combating climate change, a group of large energy companies has announced its support of a proposal by former US cabinet officials to impose a federal US tax on greenhouse gas emissions and redistribute the proceeds to citizens as a "carbon dividend."

ILO Standard Links Global Labor Agenda to Peace

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has announced that outcomes of its June International Labour Conference included a global recommendation seeking to promote "peace and stability" through the UN agency's labor rights agenda and an evaluation of how the ILO can best contribute to the global governance of labor migration.
