The Center for Economic and Social Rights has called on the UN Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights to assert in its "General Comment" on corporate tax and human rights that states have a duty under global human rights treaties to ensure that businesses contribute their "fair share of tax" to help fund the economic, social, and cultural rights agenda.

EU Ministers Agree to Tax Avoidance Rules

Reuters reports that finance ministers of EU member states have agreed new rules seeking to require multinational companies to pay more taxes in the EU by amending rules allowing such companies to declare profits in low-tax jurisdictions and determining a common definition of "tax havens" to put pressure on non-EU countries with competitive corporate tax rates.
