The Brussels Times reports that the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions has announced its investigation of McDonald's employment conditions in Belgium following complaints by trade unions and others about the impacts of the company's "flexi-jobs" program on workers' rights and social security.

A group of nongovernmental organizations called the European Coalition for Corporate Justice has praised a French bill, passed by the country's National Assembly, requiring corporate "due diligence" to counter business and human rights (BHR) impacts but calls for stronger provisions on remedies for alleged victims of BHR violations.

Philippines Body Sets Hearings on Climate Rights

Reflecting the efforts of activists and international organizations to link climate change with the global human rights agenda, the Philippines Commission on Human Rights has announced that it will hold in April 2017 its first hearings on whether a group of major energy companies is responsible for the human rights impacts of global warming.
