Oxfam Seeks "Robust" EU Tax Haven Blacklist

A press release from the nongovernmental organization Oxfam calls on EU officials considering a tax haven "blacklist" for countries that offer low tax rates to multinational companies to impose "sufficiently robust" rules for these jurisdictions, to include EU member states, and to consider a zero-percent corporate tax rate as a "key criterion" for tax haven status.

UN Agency Imposes Climate Standards on Shipping

The UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted mandatory standards for the shipping industry to monitor greenhouse gas emissions and has committed to a 2023 "road map" for the development of a "comprehensive IMO strategy on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships."

NGO: Business Climate Measures Are Insufficient

Based on the disclosures of over one thousand companies responding to its survey on their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Carbon Disclosure Project has called for a quadrupling of these private-sector climate measures to meet the UN's global climate change goals.
