MEPs Seek Robust Non-Financial Reporting in EU Member States

Members of the European Parliament ("MEPs") Sergio Cofferati and Richard Howitt, who claim a role in the agreement of EU legislation that will require corporate reporting of social and environmental impacts, call for EU member states to go beyond the requirements of the Directive in imposing robust non-financial reporting requirements on businesses operating in their territory.

EU Court Ruling Sparks Drop in Business Carbon Permits

Bloomberg reports that carbon emissions permits for businesses operating in the EU have dropped precipitously since the Court of Justice of the EU ("ECJ") issued a decision finding that the European Commission had issued too many permits since an expansion of the carbon program in 2013 and requiring it to correct errors in its calculation of free allowances.

As a coordinated campaign continues among US state attorneys general to hold energy company ExxonMobil liable for allegedly false communications on the science of climate change, Attorney General of the US Virgin Islands Claude Walker has subpoenaed communications between Exxon and 90 organizations "engaged in research or advocacy" on global warming.

OECD: Companies Must Support "Living Wage" in Supply Chain

Officials from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ("OECD") have published a report calling on multinational corporations to use their influence over their suppliers to promote a "living wage" for workers in developing countries, as required by OECD, UN, and other global guidelines on the promotion of business and human rights standards.
