New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and other shareholders in energy company Exxon Mobil have petitioned the US Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") to force Exxon to permit a vote on a resolution that would require the company to report annually on its response to business risks relating to climate change.

EU Ombudsman Criticizes Lack of Impact Assessment

In a recent decision on the European Commission's conclusion of a trade agreement with Vietnam, the European Ombudsman found that the institution's "failure" to perform a human rights impact assessment, a tool commonly proposed by business and human rights activists for use by governments and corporations, constituted "maladministration."
