In response to pressure from investors and clients, and as nongovernmental organizations call for divestment from projects involving fossil fuels, the financial institution Citigroup has pledged $100 billion toward "green initiatives" and renewable energy projects to help counter global warming.

Union Organization Supports Human Right to Strike

The International Trade Union Confederation has announced that it recently held a "global day of action" to support the human right to strike and that it is supporting the referral of a dispute with employers over this right from the International Labour Organization to the International Court of Justice for adjudication.

NGO Calls for U.K. to Crack down on "Tax Dodging"

Nuria Molina of the nongovernmental organization ActionAid UK has called on Britain to pass laws restricting corporations from reducing their tax burden in developing countries using so-called "tax havens" and to advocate for "concerted international action" on tax avoidance at an upcoming UN conference.

U.S. State Department Announces Process for BHR Plan

The U.S. State Department has issued answers to "frequently asked questions" regarding its development of a "national action plan" on business and human rights ("BHR") indicating that application of the plan to business conduct will take place both in the domestic sphere and around the world.
