EU Leaders Support Brexit Delay

The Independent reports that President of the EU Council Donald Tusk and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar have supported a delayed Brexit, with the EU Council chief referring to a delay as a “rational” response to the failure of the EU and UK Prime Minister Theresa May to reach a withdrawal deal that is acceptable to the British Parliament.

AU Opposes EU Plan for Extraterritorial Migrant Processing

The Guardian reports that a leaked paper from the African Union (AU) shows the multilateral organization is seeking to dissuade coastal African countries from participating in an EU plan to establish migrant processing centers in their territories, finding such a scheme would violate the international human rights agenda.

May Offers UK Parliament Vote to Delay Brexit

NPR reports that UK Prime Minister Theresa May has offered the House of Commons an opportunity to vote to delay Brexit for up to three months if they reject, in a series of votes in March, both the withdrawal deal she is negotiating with the EU and departure of Britain from the EU on WTO terms.

EU Council Supports Restrictive Online Copyright Rules

Reuters reports that national officials from a majority of EU countries backed, over the objection of five member states, new copyright rules that will require internet companies including Facebook and Google to pay publishers to reproduce news snippets and to remove copyright-protected content from their platforms.
