Cleppe: Barnier Is "Reckless" on Brexit Transition Terms

Pieter Cleppe of the think tank Open Europe argues that the recent position taken by the European Commission's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier on the UK's rights during any post-Brexit transition period is "unreasonable and reckless," refusing Britain many of the rights enjoyed by countries, like Norway, that have ties to the EU without being a member.

EC Seeks Debate on Consolidation of EU Authority

In a speech in Rome, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini characterized the recent creation of a mechanism for defense collaboration among EU member states as "more ambitious than a European army," pointing to the broad reach of the cooperation in various economic sectors and its inclusion of a diplomatic focus.
