Official Suggests UK Join EFTA Court

Professor Carl Baudenbacher, President of the Court of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - a free trade organization containing EU member states, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein - has called on the UK to consider joining the EFTA Court, which relies broadly in their judgments on case law from EU courts, following its departure from the EU.

The Daily Telegraph reports that UK officials have expressed the government's willingness to subject Britain to the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the EU (ECJ) until the end of any post-Brexit transition period, leaving open the possibility that the ECJ may still be resolving British cases as late as the year 2027.

Reuters reports that the government of the Czech Republic has sued the EU over a recent directive banning some types of semi-automatic firearms and requiring increased registration of other weapons, arguing that such a policy would unnecessarily target hunters and drive many guns to the black market.

UK Official: EU Plans to Limit UK Residency Rights

Reuters reports that, according to a letter from UK Brexit Secreetary David Davis, the EU’s current offer to the UK in Brexit negotiations stipulates that Britons living in Europe would retain residency rights only in their current country of residence after Brexit and would not have the right to move to another EU country.
