Poland Threatens Action over EU "Multi-Speed" Policy

Bloomberg reports that, prior to the recent EU summit celebrating the 60th anniversary of the bloc in Rome, Prime Minister of Poland Beata Szydlo pledged not to sign any multilateral document committing the EU to a "multi-speed" model permitting part of the bloc to federalize at a faster rate than others.

Juncker Confirms Budget Demand for Brexit Talks

In a recent interview, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed that EU negotiators will demand in talks over Brexit that the UK pay approximately $62 billion toward what EU leaders say are its budget obligations to the bloc and indicated that a priority in the negotiations will be to incentivize other EU members not to leave.

French Regulator: EU Must Maintain Ties to UK Finance

At a recent conference, Gerard Rameix, the chairman of a French financial regulatory agency, called for the EU to assess the prospect of establishing a special financial "equivalence" regime for the UK market to maintain close ties after Brexit and asserted that the EU should maintain supervision over the clearing of euro-denominated transactions in London.

EurActiv reports that EU leaders have bypassed concerns from countries that an EU Public Prosecutors' Office will become a centralized justice ministry that takes competences from EU member states by brokering an "enhanced cooperation" deal permitting EU members the choice whether to recognize the powers of this new EU prosecutorial body.
