MEP's Amendments Tighten EU Gun Control Legislation

Member of the European Parliament ("MEP") Vicky Ford has offered 86 amendments to a European Commission proposal to revise the EU firearms directive, calling for stricter legislation that would make it more difficult to obtain a firearm for "historical purposes," provide for secure weapons storage, and increase firearms information-sharing among EU member states.

EU Advances Passenger Name Record Proposal

The European Parliament has approved and sent to the Council of the EU a proposed directive requiring EU member states, for security purposes, to collect and store for five years data on passengers flying between EU countries and countries outside the bloc.

EU Charges Google with Antitrust Violations

Politico reports that, in the latest legal feud between the EU and an American tech giant, the European Commission has announced that it has charged Google with antitrust violations stemming from the apps the Commission says Google requires manufacturers to install on the company's Android operating system.

Russian Court's Rejection of ECtHR Ruling Seeks "Compromise"

The Russian Constitutional Court has held that, although it would be impossible to fully enforce a European Court of Human Rights ("ECtHR") decision finding that a blanket ban in Russia on prisoner voting violates human rights, the Court would be open to a "compromise" with the ECtHR on granting votes to prisoners who have committed minor crimes.
