EU Parliament Calls on Poland to End Court Standoff

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution that calls on the Polish government to end a standoff with the country's Constitutional Tribunal by accepting the court's decision striking down changes to the judiciary and pushes the European Commission to step up the use of its "rule of law mechanism" to investigate the government if it does not comply.

EU Pushes Stronger Border Measures in Greece

After reviewing an action plan produced by Greece describing the measures its government is taking to tighten control of its external borders, the European Commission has adopted an assessment calling for clarifications of details including the time frame of the proposed border reforms in an effort to end internal controls in the passport-free Schengen Area.

EU Parliament Endorses Centralized Asylum System

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling for the EU to develop a "central system for collecting and allocating asylum applications" in place of the current, national-government-controlled system, and acknowledging that the new system might involve a "quota" for the resettlement of refugees in each EU member state.
