ECJ Upholds Denial of Social Assistance to EU Migrants

The Court of Justice of the EU has upheld a decision by the German government to cease social security payments to a Swedish national who had previously worked in Germany and had received unemployment benefits since 2011, finding that denying such benefits did not "contravene the principle of equal treatment" of EU migrants.

Report: Germany Makes EU Army a Condition of UK Renegotiation

The Telegraph reports that according to a source in Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will ask the UK to withdraw its opposition to the integration of military resources in Europe and to the eventual creation of an EU army in return for favorable terms in Britain's renegotiation of competences with the EU.
