Counter-Narratives Program Gets New Support in U.S. Efforts to Counter Islamist Extremist Recruitment

The Summit on Countering Violent Extremism organized last week by the White House announced that the State Department's Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications will become the main platform for using social media and electronic networking to generate counter-narratives in order to combat the successful digital recruitment drive of global Islamist terror groups, although skeptics raise concerns about the Center's past lack of impact due to weak funding and poor inter-agency integration.

OIC Chief Condemns IS Mass Execution of Egyptian Christians

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ("OIC") issued an official condemnation of the mass beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya by the Islamic State ("IS"), referring to the mass executions as a "barbaric act" and calling on warring Libyan forces to find common ground to stave off the consolidation of terrorist control in the country.
