UK Legal Group Steps Back from Sharia Practice Rules

The United Kingdom (U.K.) Law Society, an independent regulatory and standards association for U.K. attorneys, has withdrawn its formal practice note on "sharia succession rules," following a reexamination of the note prompted by criticism from other legal professional societies, which pointed out that sharia inheritance practices discriminate along gender, faith, and age lines.

OIC Governments Discuss Media and Free Speech Limits to Promote Islam

Information and Communications Ministers from the 57-member-state Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ("OIC") met in Iran to discuss "media convergence for peace and calm in the Islamic world," reviewing proposals to use social media to promote "common story boards of the positive aspects of Islam" in order to counter extremist Islamist narratives, and calling on member-states to constrain freedom of expression when necessary to combat social media messages by violent extremist Islamists.
