A growing number of Islamic groups and Muslim leaders from the Middle East and European countries and the U.S. are calling for a rejection of the term "Islamic" to describe ISIS (the self-styled Islamic State of Syria and Iraq/Levant) and al-Qaeda, arguing that use of the term Islamic for jihadi-terrorist groups provokes stereotyping of Islam and all Muslims.

OIC Plans High Profile Meetings and Strategy Sessions for Opening of UN General Assembly

The Secretary General of the 57-member-state Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (“OIC”) will hold strategic planning sessions in sideline meetings at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly (“UNGA”), with particular focus on Islamic approaches to conflict resolution, Islamic organizations in the United States and Palestine, and Islamic perspectives on human rights – and is expected to meet with the UN Secretary General and heads of state from around the world.
