The European Economic and Social Committee hosted a conference in May pushing for EU recognition of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a "new world order" and calling for SDG promotion with the aim of "helping to fight climate change and becoming a more equal society."

UN Chief Speech Shows Prioritization of Climate

Showing the prioritization by UN leaders of advancing the goals of the Paris climate deal, UN Secretary-General António Guterres pledged in a speech at New York University's Stern School of Business to work with countries to accelerate their reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and develop "national climate action plans" to comply with their commitments under the Paris deal.

UN Seeks "Accessible and Safe" Migration Routes to Europe

Citing the number of deaths at sea in the past year as migrants made their way across the Mediterranean to Italy, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reiterated the agency's calls for European countries to open up "accessible and safe ways to reach Europe" for migrants.
