Researcher Calls for Third-Party Monitoring of Carbon Offsets

Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that a researcher at Stanford University has called for an independent mechanism to monitor carbon offset schemes used by countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of their pledges under the UN climate agreement that went into force in early November.

The Indian Government has announced that it will push to include in actions agreed at the UN's COP22 climate change conference in Marrakesh, Morocco, policies promoting a "sustainable lifestyle" based on "need-based consumption" around the world.

World Bank Directs Billions Toward Climate Finance

The World Bank has outlined its efforts, as part of its Climate Change Action Plan adopted in April, to direct billions of dollars in development finance toward renewable energy and other projects in poor countries to help achieve government pledges under the UN climate deal that went into force earlier this month.
